The Agprognostic Temple

Courtyard: 2020 to 2023

The Agprognostic Temple, co-founded by the artist Dome Wood and the art critic/curator Sam Steverlynck, was a nomadic art space with its intention grounded in the overall desire of the artist to express a better ontology in art and to extend this beyond the practice of his own art.
The particular importance of the temple was to bring a new viewing experience of art forward through a curatorial program that can show and narrate the multi-perspective views of artists on spiritual, mystical and metaphysical issues.

The name Agprognostic is a neologism invented by the artist, to express an ontological position, that knowing (gnostic) and not-knowing (agnostic) are inseparable and brought only together in being by the ability to know (prognosis).

Emphasisng the phenomenological ground of the unknown as the essence of life to every great artwork, The Cube of the Unknown became the central piece of every exhibition; inside the cube was an artwork that would be revealed on the last day of every exhibition. A ritual that symbolised the unknown becoming the known from the known that had become unknown.

The Agprognostic Temple curated nine exhibitions in total with six different locations. For every location, a different scenography was created, emphasising the philosophy of the Temple while providing a mystical viewing experience.
